More Students from South opting for U.K. Education

The number of students opting for education in the United Kingdom from south India has gone up, with a 38 per cent increase in registration last year.

Students from cities other than Coimbatore, Mangalore, Cochin and a few from Puducherry were opting for overseas education in the U.K., the head of Education U.K., south India, British Council division, L. Dhanasekaran, said.

A Team from Education UK of the British Council are on a two-day visit to educational institutions in Puducherry to interact with principals and placement officers. The team consisted of staff from Education UK, examination and school section.

“This September, we anticipate a 50 per cent increase in the number of visas,” Mr. Dhanasekaran said.

With south India being more focussed on postgraduate studies in UK, many belonging to middle income group were choosing overseas education, he said.

He said: “The availability of educational loans for students is one factor that has increased the preference for overseas education.”

Over 113 Varsities

There are more than 113 Universities and 600 colleges offering undergraduate and higher level programmes in the U.K.

“During this visit to Puducherry, we are also addressing students wherever possible regarding the benefits of studying in the U.K., the application process and visa formalities,” he said.
