National Horticulture Mission News
A block – level training programme under the National Horticulture Mission (NHM) was organised by Rajakkamangalam block by the Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops recently.
Awareness of schemes
According to Asok Macrin, the Assistant Director for Horticulture, Rajakkamangalam, the objective of the programme is to create an awareness of horticultural development schemes such as integrated horticulture development schemes, National Horticulture Mission, Micro Irrigation Scheme and National Mission on Medicinal Plants among the village panchayat presidents, members and farmers groups in block level.
The district panchayat president, D. Ajitha Mano Thankaraj, presided over the function and spoke on the importance of practising agriculture with a professional approach using high yielding verities and improved cultivation practices to increase the productivity.
The scientist from Horticulture Research Station at Pechipparai, Richard Kennedy, conducted the technical session on the training programme.
The Lead Bank manager, Chandra Sekar, explained the facilities for agriculture advances.
He encouraged the participants to come up with viable projects to avail themselves of both advance and subsidy through various departments.
Training kits provided
The participants were provided training kits along with reading materials.
