NSUI wins first Gondwana University students Council Polls :
National Students Union of India ( NSUI ) has clinched victory in the first-ever students council election held for Gondwana University. Rahul Mankar and Nilesh Rathod of NSUI were elected as president and general secretary respectively.
Students organizations like ABVP, Yuva Shakti, NCP students wing and others had formed an alliance for elections while NSUI fought on its own. Mankar along with Monali Wadettiwar and Divya Sakharkar had filed nominations for the post of president of student council. However, Monali’s nomination was disqualified, leaving Mankar and Sakharkar in the fray for president’s post.
Both of them secured seven votes each, leading to a tie between them. NSUI’s Mankar however won by toss and was elected president. Nilesh Rathod of NSUI defeated his rival Nikhil Gaddekar by one vote. The elections were held at university campus in Gadchiroli under the supervision of vice-chancellor Vijay Ainchwar.
Talking to reporters, Chimur MLA Vijay Wadettiwar said the victory was inclination of youths towards Congress. He claimed that youths showed their support to the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. BJP and NCP led students wings had forged an alliance, but they had to bite the dust, he added.
