New Courses in Biomedical Technology

Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M), Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruva-nanthapuram (SCTIMST) and Christian Medical College, Vellore ( CMC), recently signed an MoU to jointly initiate two programmes — M. Tech. (Clinical Engineering) and Ph. D. (Biomedical Devices and Technology).

The programmes are aimed at addressing the country’s need of human resource development in those areas, thereby contributing to the overall process of development of biomedical technology and healthcare delivery.

The M.Tech. (Clinical Engineering) programme will address the shortcomings through its approach of combining formal engineering training with hands-on clinical exposure. The Ph.D. programme is aimed at developing highly capable contributors in the area of Biomedical Devices and Technology, who would also become entrepreneurs. The selection will be done through a screening test and a personal interview.

The M.Tech course will be for two-and-a-half years.
