Over 1.38 lakh candidates appears for VIT Entrance Examination

A total of 1,38,008 candidates (1,07,013 boys and 30,995 girls) will be appearing for the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE)-2008 to be held in 170 centres in 22 States and three Union Territories on Saturday.

The candidates are aspiring for admission to 2,150 seats in 12 B.Tech. courses offered by VIT University.

Briefing reporters about VITEEE-2008 on the university campus here on Wednesday, G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, said 92,300 candidates appeared for VITEEE-2007. The number had gone up by 18.5 times in the last six years.

For VITEEE-2008, the largest number (27,265 candidates) was from Andhra Pradesh, followed by Uttar Pradesh (24,867), Bihar (14,208), Tamil Nadu (10,197) and Jharkhand (9,378).

A total of 12,201 candidates would be appearing for the examination in 13 centres in New Delhi, and 3,580 candidates in the lone centre on the VIT campus.

Sekar Viswanathan, Pro-Chancellor of VIT, said that the results of VITEEE-2008 would be published on the following five websites on May 9: www.vit.ac.in, www.indiaresults.com, www.globalinfowings.com, www.bharathedu.com and www.icqresults.com.

The results would also be sent to the candidates through SMS to their mobile phones.

Counselling for those who obtained ranks from one to 6,000 would be held in four batches: rank 1 to 2000 on June 4; rank 2001-3500 on June 6; rank 3501-5000 on June 9; rank 5001-6000 on June 11.Mr. Viswanathan said that VIT University would be providing a special fee concession to the first rank-holder in VITEEE from each State.
