Periyar University – Mass Copying at B.Ed. Exams Alleged

GROSS irregularities has come to light in the conduct of the ongoing B.Ed examinations in the Periyar University Examinations, commenced on June 2 in all the 94 colleges offering B.Ed courses.

Incidents of question paper leak, massive copying and extended duration of exams have been reported to the Vice Chancellor by the university nominated monitors.

Express enquires revealed that a nexus between colleges, university examination department and university administration has encouraged the blatant irregularities although a monitoring mechanism was in place.

According to reports to the Vice Chancellor, many of the teaching staff who were selected as University Representatives (URs) at the examination centres had not turned up.

Hence the question paper seal was opened without the UR’s presence much earlier to the exams resulting in question paper leak.

According to university procedures, the question paper cover should be unsealed only by an authorized UR nominated by the controller of exams. Strangely, the colleges did not report the absence of UR’s to the university

Senior professor of an aided college, on the condition of anonymity said, “It was a free for all situation at the examination centres”.

“The university rule which stipulates that only senior teaching staffs or senate members to be nominated for the flying squad duty was also violated,” he said.
