Physical Education Students may be employed in Government Schools

More than 50 unemployed youth, who had completed physical education courses, have observed fast demanding that the government appoint at least a physical education teacher for every 250 students in government schools across the State.

The government should also recruit two yoga trainers for a school, they said.

Addressing a meeting, here on Monday, district president of unemployed PET Association G Kolanji said several youth had completed PET courses and were waiting for employment opportunities in government schools.

As the government has not filled up at least 12,500 vacancies, many posts remained vacant in middle schools, high schools and higher secondary schools for years.

The physical education course will assist the wards to remain in good health and relieve stress, he said.

Many youth have completed physical education courses, including B P.Ed, M P Ed, M Phil and Ph.D. and were waiting for placement in government-run schools.

Similarly, many youth have completed diploma in Yoga and were awaiting placements. The government had not recruited physical education teacher in government-run Adi Dravida welfare schools in the State.

Physical education must be made a compulsory subject in the curriculum. MLA D Ravikumar, district panchayat union chairman R Silambuselvi and Tindivanam MP K Dhanraj were present.
