Pollachi School signs pact with U.K. Institution
In an effort to improve the quality of education, provide better exposure to students and offer an international platform, the Shri Krishnaa Vithyaalayam Matric Higher Secondary School, Pollachi, has inked an agreement with a United Kingdom institution.
The school signed the memorandum of understanding with The Westborough Primary School and Nursery, Essex, to “enhance and develop mutual understanding on behalf of both the pupils and educators in our schools of our countries, cultures, languages and diversity.”
“We [the schools] intend to maintain our links with an exchange of work produced within the established curriculum and extend the scope of our exchanges by creating projects to run along-side and complement the curriculum.”
M.K. Anantha Ganesan, Principal, signed the agreement on behalf of the Pollachi school and Simon Hollands, teacher, complimented him.
The cross-country understanding comes as a result of a visit Mr. Ganesan undertook to the United Kingdom. “The Department for International Development of the United Kingdom Government sponsored the visit through the British Council. This happened in 2009,” he says.
Consequent upon the understanding, the principal plans to set up video conference facility to enable the students interact with one another.
“When the children get to know each other, their language skills will improve, they will gain international exposure and understand each others’ culture.”
“We also plan to have live streaming of science classes conducted there,” he adds.
The next academic year the agreement is likely to result in exchange of faculty. Assistance in project work is also expected.
The Shri Krishnaa Vithyaalayam Matric Higher Secondary School has many similar feathers to its cap.
It has a ham radio club, made an application to the International Space Station for an interaction and will soon have two telescopes.
