The stage is set for the Pre-admission Guidance Programme organised by The Hindu-EducationPlus for candidates wishing to pursue a career in medicine or engineering.
The annual event will begin at the Tagore Centenary Hall, Vazhuthcaud, at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The programme has been organised in association with the State Bank of Travancore and the Triumphant Institute of Management Education (T.I.M.E.).
Though registration of candidates for the programme closed on Saturday evening, spot registration will be permitted on a limited basis mainly to benefit students coming from areas near the capital city.
The programme aims at demystifying the computerised, online allotment of courses and colleges carried out by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.
On Sunday, Commissioner for Entrance Examinations B.S. Maoji and Joint Commissioner S.N. Kumar will give a presentation on the Common Admission Programme (CAP) and advise students on how to avoid common mistakes while registering course-college options.
Health activist C.R. Soman will make a presentation on MBBS and allied courses and on emerging areas of study and research in medicine.
Career guidance expert B.S. Warrier will speak on the various branches of study in engineering, their relative merits and the criteria based on which a student should decide to opt for a particular branch of study.
There will also be a special presentation on soft skills that often prove vital to success in campus recruitment drives in particular and during interviews in general.
This presentation will be delivered by Raghunath Krishnan of T.I.M.E. A representative of the SBT will showcase various education loan schemes for candidates seeking admission to professional courses.
There will also be a question & answer session during which the panelists will answer individual queries.
