Primary Education must be in Mother Tongue

President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Chandrashekhar Patil has said that a child must be given primary education in his mother tongue or in the “language of nature.”

Speaking at the “Pratibha Puraskar” programme organised by the Dharwad district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat here on Saturday to felicitate students who had scored cent per cent marks in Kannada in SSLC and PU examination, he said only such education would contribute to the overall development of the child.

“The English language which brought the touch of Western culture was earlier a language of liberation, but now it is only a language of marketing,” he said.

“In the present competitive era learning another language is a necessity, but priority should be given to the mother tongue,” he said. He said Kannada was strong enough to sustain any attack.

Ten students who opted for Kannada as first language in the SSLC and scored 125 out of 125 marks, two students who had scored 100 out of 100 opting for Kannada as second language, two highest scorers in Kannada in Second PU were felicitated.
