Plant Genome Saviour Community Award

The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority invite applications for the “Plant Genome Saviour Community Award” for the financial year 2010 – 11.

Award : 

The Authority annually confers the “Plant Genome Saviour Community Award” on the basis of the applications from community of farmers / farming community based organization who have a long track record of conserving plant agro – biodiversity. There shall be a maximum of five awards for 2010 – 11. The value of the award will be of 10,00,000/- ( Rupees Ten Lakhs only ).

Eligibility :

The award is open to all Indian farmers, community of farmers, particularly the tribal and rural communities engaged in conservation, improvement and preservation of genetic resources of economic plants and their wild relatives particularly in the areas identified as agro – biodiversity hotspots across the country.

Application Form :

PPVFRA application form, guidelines and procedures can be obtained on all working days from the Office of the PPV&FRA between 09:30 a.m. to 17:30 p.m. or can be downloaded from the website Applicant can fill the forms in Hindi or English as they desire.

There is no PPVFRA application fee and only one complete form with all supportive documents is to be submitted. If required, site inspection for verification of the claims will also be taken up. The decision of the Authority shall be final.

Essential :

An application should be submitted to the Registrar ( Farmers’ Rights ), PPV&FR Authority along with supportive information, evidence / details / proof on the claims made and their efforts to conserve the genetic resources and a proposal for utilisation of the award money in community development. It is essential for the applicant(s) to submit supportive information that the farmers / community of farmers have conserved the crop genetics diversity.

The Panchayat(s), Agricultural Universities, KVKs, ICAR Institutes, reputed research organizations, NGOs, community based organizations, Farmers’ Associations, etc. can sponsor / apply on behalf of the eligible candidates after carefully verifying and attesting the claims and achievements. The proposal should be duly verified by designated authorities as mentioned in the application format.
