Rajalakshmi Engineering College conducts One-Day Workshop on Higher Education

A one-day workshop on “Higher Education – a review” was organised by the Rajalakshmi Engineering College, near Chennai, recently.

Dr.Mannar Jawahar, Vice Chancellor of Anna University, who delivered his inaugural speech, pointed out the distinctive features of the three systems namely affiliated, autonomous and deemed university systems.

All the three systems are required to cater to the needs of different cross sections of the students in our country.

The affiliated institutions primarily focus on teaching and after gaining certain years of experience these institutions could move on to the autonomous status where they have complete flexibility in the framing of curricula and syllabi and also the examination pattern to be followed.

Then further on, when they develop sufficient infrastructure for research and development, they can become Deemed Universities with complete independent functioning in all the components starting from admission to the award of the degree.

All the three system of institution should ultimately produce readily employable graduates with a sound knowledge of there core field.

Mr. Jawahar said, this workshop was timely and he hoped that the deliberations will bring in very useful conclusion in striving for excellence in the higher education.

Earlier, Principal Dr.S. Renganarayanan welcomed the gathering. Dr.(Mrs.)Thangam Meganathan delivered the presidential address. Vice Principal Dr.S.R. Paranjothi proposed the vote of thanks.
