School Students provided Training in Life Skills
Over 15,000 students of Class VI and VII belonging to poor families in Erode district were given training in life skills and presented with English to Tamil dictionaries recently.
The training programme, conducted through the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, was organised with the objective to help students belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and minority communities learn skills that would enhance their capabilities to handle problems and questions in daily life.
The programme also focussed on improving their language learning capability and developing their self-confidence.
Officials said that the programme comprised training sessions on basic English language, positive thinking, problem solving, time management and decision making.
Video presentations and interactive sessions were also organised as a part of the training.
Sessions were also conducted on coping with shyness and fear. Teacher educators from the cluster resource centres conducted the training programme at all the blocks in the district.
“The students found the training very useful. Apart from enhancing their confidence level, the training also helped the students to overcome the fear on learning English language,” Chief Educational Officer (SSA) Pon Kumar said. Similar programme would be conducted every year, he added.
