More than 6 lakh Aspirants Register for TET across Maharashtra
Online registration for the much awaited Teacher’s Eligibility Test ( TET ) has brought in over six lakh registrations across the state at the end of the process on 11th November, 2013. The TET Exam Registration process had started from 20th October, 2013.
“Online registration will close on Monday midnight. We have already received more than six lakh candidates till evening,” said Shivaji Pandhare, acting commissioner, Maharashtra State Council of Examination ( MSCE ). “There were initial complaints about the slow server speed, but the registration process was completed without any glitch,” said Pandhare.
Asked if the online registration date needs to be extended, Pandhare said that candidates have already had enough time from October 20 to register, hence the department will stick to its schedule.
Registered candidates have to submit a copy of their registration to the district education office by 15th November, 2013.
The TET exam is set to be conducted on 15th December, 2013 for the first time in the state this year. The syllabus for the examination is based on the secondary and higher secondary school education. The test has been made compulsory for all schools in the state, irrespective of their funding status.
The Maharashtra government had stated that the test would help filter the best candidates and that public and private schools will be allowed to recruit only those teachers who have cleared the test. There are a total of 3,38,658 sanctioned posts of the teachers in the state, of which 32,746 are vacant. TET is not mandatory for existing teachers and applicable for those aspiring to join as teachers from now onwards.
