Buddha College plans Study on Ayurveda Medicines
Sree Buddha College of Engineering (SBCE) at Pattoor, near Pandalam, will soon start a Centrally-funded study on optimisation of the manufacturing process of various Ayurvedic preparations, according to K. Sasikumar, chairman of Sree Buddha Education Society.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Dr. Sasikumar said the proposed project is a collaborative venture of SBCE and State-run Oushadhi (Pharmaceutical Corporation (IM) Kerala Ltd.).
He said the project was funded by the National Medicinal Plants Board attached to the Department of AYUSH under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He said a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the two institutions for the research work under the supervision of P. Seema Nair, head of the department of biotechnology and biochemical engineering at SBCE and Sheela Karalam, special officer attached to the research and development division of Oushadhi.
According to Dr. Seema, the knowledge on fermented Ayurvedic medicines remains undocumented and unrecognised.
The proposed study was a venture to characterise its manufacturing process parameters using advanced biotechnology tools and also to improve the existing methodology to develop Ayurvedic medicines of high efficacy and quality, she added.
