Sri Shakti Institute of Engineering and Technology conducts Regional Maths Olympiad
The District Science Olympiad to identify prospective schoolstudents, who can be trained for two months to take the Regional Maths Olympiad organised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), will be conducted by Sri Shakti Institute of Engineering and Technology on January 27.
The Mathematics Olympiad Programme in India, which leads to participation of Indian students in the International Mathematical Olympiad, is organised by HBCSE on behalf of the National Board of Higher Mathematics of the Department of Atomic Energy. Its main purpose is to spot mathematical talent among pre-university students in the country.
For the purpose of training and selection of students for the Olympiad contest, the country has been divided into 24 regions. The Mathematics Olympiad programme is initially conducted at the regional and national levels.
Schoolstudents from Class XI and XII are eligible to appear for the Regional Mathematical Olympiad, which is a three-hour written test containing six or seven problems. On the basis of this performance, some students from each region are selected for the second stage.
The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a four-hour test. The top 35 place holders of the INMO are selected to attend a month long training camp. At the end of the camp, a team of six is selected to represent India in the International Mathematical Olympiad held in some country.
The District Science Olympiad comprises a written test and an on stage event. The team with the maximum score in the written round will qualify for the onstage second round. The team with the maximum score in the onstage event will be given prizes. The written test will include questions from physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and computer science.
There will be no participation fee. There can be a maximum of three teams from a school. Last date for receipt of completed registration forms by the institute is January 11.
