Staff Shortage in Rural Development Department

With the launch of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Program (NREGP) and wresting of Self-Help Group affairs with the Rural Development Department, the per capita work load of the staff has increased and hence it is urgent to recruit staff at all levels if the department was to function well.

This was pointed out at the one-day orientation workshop held here by the Tamilnadu Rural Development Officers Association (TNRDOA).

The workshop was conducted with an objective to revamp working culture, self-evaluation and skill up gradation in order to cope with more work load.

The participants however reiterated their demand for filling up of existing vacancies and also recruit staff for newly created positions. It was demanded that posts created in 10 districts for the propose of implementing the NREGP scheme should be extended to all the districts.

Assistant Directors (Panchayats and Audit) and Assistant Block

Development Officers (office) should be upgraded as BDO’s. Computer operators should be appointed in all Panchayats. The employment terms of the road workers should be regularised Atleast 20 percent of the Junior Assistants must be promoted. Salem Collector N Madhivanan, gave away shields for 20 BDO’s, Engineers and Panchayat Assistants.
