Students Perform Pada Pooja to Parents for Succeed in the Examination

As many as 87 students of Karaikal Ammaiyar High School, Karaikal, performed a unique ceremony ahead of the SSLC Public Examination scheduled to commence on March 27.

At a function, organised by the School Management, the students performed ‘pada pooja’ to their parents for receiving their blessings.

The School Management has been organising this unique ceremony for the past nine years and has been producing 100 per cent pass in the examination consecutively.

The parents sat in a chair keeping their legs in a plate. The students poured water, sandal paste, kumkum and flowers praying for their blessings to succeed in the examination. The parents, in turn, put ‘atchadhai’ on the head of their wards.

Baskaran, headmaster of the school, said the pada pooja was being organised to provide the much-needed psychological support to the students ahead of the exam. “This pooja brings determination in the minds of the students that they must achieve something in their life.

The parents also feel pleased and they become mentally prepared to cooperate with their children for their success in the exam,” he said and added that students were being taken on an all-religion pilgrimage to the nearby Vailankanni, Nagoor and to the Karaikal Ammaiyar Temple after the pada pooja.

It may be noted that most of the students of this school hail from poor families whose parents could not afford money for private tuition. The school produces top rankers in the district almost every year.

Members of the School Management Stalin Mani, Shanmugasundaram, Desigan, Vijayan and others participated.
