Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) lecture presentations are through online

After shifting from the conventional method of teaching to e-learning, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and its constituent colleges introduced online examinations (mid-semester) for their students pursuing undergraduate programmes. Now, its next venture in the list of tech-savvy innovations is video streaming.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Vice-Chancellor C. Ramasamy said students would be offered open course ware. “As it is, all their course materials are available online. Their examinations are also taken online.

In addition, lecture presentations by teachers will be videographed, converted into digital form and hosted in the university’s website along with the other material.

The text will be synchronised with the lecture and will be made to appear on screen alongside the teacher’s lecture.”

This was conceived to help students from Tamil medium and rural background that faced comprehension problems. They could play it over and over again at their leisure for not only subject knowledge, but also language and presentation skills, the Vice-Chancellor added.

K. Vanangamudi, Dean (Agriculture), said: “The videographing, editing and synchronising will be done by our own staff. There will be no outsourcing.

With the Wi-Fi facility in hostels, students will be able to view the lectures anytime. This will also help those who are unable to attend lectures.”

The university would also start the practice of e-assignments by which teachers would host the assignments on the website. Students would send the completed assignment by e-mail to the teacher.

The annual examinations of the TNAU and its constituent colleges would be held onine in June. Evaluation too would be made online.
