Teachers, Students to be trained in English
The Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board would organise a year-long training programme for teachers and students to improve standards of education, a senior officer said here on Saturday.
Difficulty in understanding English was one of the main causes for the low pass percentage in SSLC examinations in the Hyderabad Karnataka region, especially Bidar.
Thus, the Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board had decided to start the training programme, Joint Director of the board Praveen Priya said.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop aimed at training educators about teaching English through the mother tongues of students.
Around 10,000 students failed in the SSLC examination this year. Most of them had been unable to clear their English paper, Mr. Priya said.
He urged teachers to make sure students understood their lessons and did not learn by rote.
Helping students lead better lives was the only way to celebrate Teachers’ Day, he said.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction Mohammad Basheer said all efforts were being made to improve the SSLC pass percentage in Bidar.
Resource person Shanti Desai spoke at the workshop.
