Web based Counselling for Admission into Technical Institutions in Orissa

The Orissa State government here on 3rd June, 2011 decided to stick to the web based counselling for this year’s admissions into technical institutions across the State.

After rounds of marathon meeting, Industries Minister Raghunath Mohanty informed reporters that although oppositions came from several quarters against web – based counselling, the government decided to go ahead system which was started last year.

Orissa Private Engineering College Association had opposed the online counselling saying seats were lying vacant due to confusions in the process and moreover many candidates had no access to internet in rural areas.

Meanwhile, with approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for upcoming colleges and new programmes in existing college apprehended not to be available by 30th June, 2011, the State government decided to start counselling for admission into engineering classes on basis of last year’s seat matrix.

In a direction intimated to Vice – Chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology and Chairman of Joint Entrance Examination, the Industries department said, “counselling process in respect of engineering be commenced from first week of July with the seat matrix to be prepared on the basis of intake capacity of last year excluding the course or discipline and reduction in intake capacity for which the institution has submitted application to the AICTE.”

“Any approval of the AICTE that will be received in respect of additional intake introduction of additional programmes or courses will be given effect or reflected in the seat matrix from the date it is received,” the department said.

It was earlier announced that 30th June, 2011 would be the last date for any colleges that intended to participate in Orissa JEE – conducted counselling to submit AICTE – approved seat positions.

It was unanimously opined that if the counselling process will start from first week of July and same can be completed in all respect by 31st August, 2011 and classes can be started from 1st September, 2011, the department informed.

Orissa JEE had announced the results of entrance tests for various disciplines. As many as 53,936 students were then declared eligible for taking admission in engineering classes.
