Thanjavur Tamil University will soon introduce Engineering, Medical Courses in Tamil

Tamil University, Thanjavur, will soon introduce engineering and medical courses in Tamil medium. This was disclosed by M Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor, here on Friday.

Speaking to reporters after distributing certificates to the library patrons of the university and cordless phones for the heads of departments at a cost of Rs.1 lakh, Rajendran said a research centre would be opened at the university in the name of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

All the palm leaves in the Department of MSS would be electrocopied. With the help of the government grant of Rs.5 lakh, revised editions of the palm leaves pertaining to medicine would be brought out.

“The system of orientation training in Tamil for IAS and IPS officers will be reintroduced in the university” Rajendran said.

The VC further said a play on the plight of the third gender would be enacted by the Department of Drama.

Steps would also be taken to create internet connectivity for various departments of the university, revive the periodicals ‘Thamizhkalai’ and ‘Thamizh Civilisation’ and cultivate jatropha in an area of 125 acres on the campus in collaboration with the Tamilnadu Agricultural University.
