TVS Vocational College launched
The TVS Educational Society (TVSES) launched the TVS Vocational College here recently, to train those who haven’t completed a formal education with the necessary skills.
The college will be situated in the T.S. Srinivasan Polytechnic and Advanced Training Centre in Vanagaram and offers a bouquet of technical and non-technical courses, certified by the Indira Gandhi Open National University (IGNOU).
The vocational college would offer training in various fields and levels, ranging from six months to one year for entry into sectors such as BPO, retail, insurance and mutual funds, among others.
Eligibility for these courses could vary from class VIII to class X and there is no age bar.
According to Malini Srinivasan, Director, TVSES, said several companies in different areas had expressed interest in collaborating with the college to train potential employees.
To start with, the college would focus on training youngsters for the retail industry and even find them suitable placements.
High school dropouts are among the students that the college would reach out to immediately, including those from corporation schools where its campaign would get aggressive.
“Twenty to thirty courses are in the offing and we would be open to start more,” Ms. Srinivasan said.
Maya Narasimhan, Principal, TVS-Vocational College, said it would be collaborating with industries to develop relevant curriculum and core competencies.
About the future plans of the TVSES, she said it hopes to start four more vocational institutions in two southern States, seek partnership with established vocational colleges and offer online courses.
V.A. Raghu, Adviser, TVSES, said Wipro’s BPO division is their first client and in the first batch 30 candidates would be trained. K. Panneerselvam, Regional Director, IGNOU, Chennai, said there are over 300 community colleges affiliated with IGNOU.
