Radio Programme gaining Popularity in Schools
In this world of information technology and invasion of television sets into each household, the radio is back again and gaining popularity among the government school students in Karimnagar district.
Thanks to the programme called “Meena Prapancham” being aired by All – India Radio ( AIR ) from 5th September, 2012 onwards between 11.45 a.m. to 12.30 noon. During the programme, teachers interact with students. The programmes are designed by the UNICEF for empowerment of girl child on various social issues, importance of education, sanitation etc.
The UNICEF radio programme on education of girl child was grand success in Uttar Pradesh. Taking cue from the success of the programme, the Rajiv Vidya Mission state unit designed the programmes in Telugu and started to telecast programmes from Teachers’ Day onwards.
All the government schools have procured the radio sets and are airing the programmes for the benefit of girl students studying in sixth, seventh and eighth standards. The short stories on various issues and empowerment of girl students is drawing attention of the students.
Besides, the programmes also educate the students about the importance of following the moral values, leadership qualities etc. During a visit to various schools in Karimnagar on 13th September, 2012, it was found that the students were listening to the radio programmes with apt attention and started learning the songs and jotting down points in their note books.
Anitha, a seventh class of government girls’ high school, Mankammathota in the town, was all praise for the programme. She says the programmes are captivating. The story telling is really good as we visualise the situation and learn the subject, she added.
Another student said the programmes are empowering and teaching them various issues prevailing in the society, particularly in the rural areas. He urged the authorities to take measures to increase the timing of the programme as they are learning a lot through radio programmes.
Karimnagar RVM Academic Monitoring Officer A. Prabhakar Rao told Press Peoples that they are getting good feedback from the students as well as teachers.
