VIT’s nationwide M.Tech, MCA Entrance Exam on 8th & 9th June 2013
VIT University’s Master’s Entrance Examination ( VITMEE – 2013 ) for admission to M.Tech. and MCA programmes will be held in 17 cities across the country on 8th June, 2013 and 9th June, 2013.
According to a release, MCA programme is offered both on the Vellore and Chennai campuses. M.Tech. programmes offered on Vellore campus are : Automotive Electronics, Bio – Medical Engineering, Biotechnology, CAD / CAM, Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Automotive Engineering ( in association with ARAI, Pune ), Energy & Environmental Engineering, Information Technology ( Networking ), Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Nanotechnology, Power Electronics & Drives, Sensor Systems Technology, Software Technology, Structural Engineering, VLSI Design, Embedded Systems.
M.Tech. programmes offered on Chennai campus are : CAD / CAM, Computer Science & Engineering, Computer Science Engineering with Specialisation in Big Data Analytics, Computer Science Engineering with Specialisation in Cloud Computing, Power Electronics & Drives, Structural Engineering, VLSI Design, Embedded Systems and Communication Engineering.
G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of the university, said that VIT offers the following scholarship and assistantship for meritorious students : monthly stipend of 4,000 for top six GATE scorers in each M.Tech. programme; Top VITMEE / GATE scorers will get a stipend of 3600 Euros ( 2.4 lakh ) for a double degree programme in Communication Engg. from UAS, Darmstadt, Germany ( Under DADD fellowship ).

The last date to apply is 18th May, 2013 and the last date for receipt of applications is 22nd May, 2013.
Results would be declared on 14th June, 2013. Interview and counselling would be held on both Vellore and Chennai campuses. Counselling for MCA would be held on 24th June, 2013 on both the campuses and counselling for M.Tech.
Automotive Engineering would be held on the same day but only in Vellore. Counselling for other M.Tech. programmes would be held on 25th June, 2013 and 26th June, 2013 on both the campuses.

1.66 lakh register for VIT Entrance Exam
A total of 1,66,978 candidates – 1,35,024 boys and 31,954 girls – have registered for the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination ( VITEEE ) to be held from 15th April, 2013 to 24th April, 2013 for admission to the B. Tech programmes offered by VIT University, Vellore.
According to a VIT release, the VITEEE is to be held in the form of a computer-based test ( CBT ) for the first time, and is to be spread over 10 days, instead of the usual one – day written test which was held all these years.
The CBT would be organised in 130 centres in 112 cities in India, Dubai and Kuwait.
G. Viswanathan, VIT Chancellor, said that Andhra Pradesh tops the chart with 33,170 registrations, followed by Uttar Pradesh 25,692, Bihar 18,810, Rajasthan 11,845 and Tamil Nadu 10,480. A total of 11,728 candidates have registered in Delhi where the entrance exam would be held in four centres.
Chennai will have 4,804 candidates and Vellore 2,097 candidates appearing for the CBT.

Counselling for admissions will be held from 13th May, 2013 to 18th May, 2013. Counselling for candidates with ranks up to 5000 will be held on 13th May, 2013, up to 9000 on 14th May, 2013, up to 12,000 on 15th May, 2013, up to 15,000 on 16th May, 2013, and ranks up to 18,000 and 20,000 on 17th May, 2013 and 18th May, 2013 respectively.
Central and State Board toppers will be awarded a 100 per cent fee waiver for all four years. Candidates with VITEEE ranks 1 to 50 will be given 75 per cent fee waiver, while those with ranks 51 to 100 will be given 50 per cent fee waiver.
Candidates with ranks from 101 to 1000 will be awarded scholarship to the tune of 95,000.
The Chancellor said that Plus Two toppers among students ( one boy and one girl ) from government schools in rural areas in each district of Tamil Nadu who appear for the VITEEE and secure top marks will be given 100 per cent tuition fee waiver and full exemption from hostel and mess fee under the Supporting The Advancement of Rural Students ( STARS ) scheme.
“This effort has been made to ensure that high scorers from each district who have poor economic background get their due and are given the best of education,” he said.
VIT University to break World Record 2013
As many as 3,005 people, including 2,612 VIT students, formed the largest human hand on an open ground near the Silver Jubilee Tower of the VIT University campus recently.
The attempt under the banner of ‘Pragathi’ was organised to create a Guinness World Record, attempted by 849 people in Puerto Rico last year. The theme of the VIT record attempt was women empowerment.
As the 1,705 men and 1,300 women formed the human hand, they were cheered on by several onlookers.
The attempt was carried out in the presence of VIT University Chancellor G. Viswanathan; Vice – Presidents Sankar Viswanathan and G.V. Sampath; and three official observers, G.K. Lokeshwari, Project Officer, Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Corporation, Vellore; N. Jayapalan, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Vellore, and E. Selvasekaran, Zonal Manager, Indian Bank, Vellore.
According to the organisers, the attempt was dedicated to the Delhi gang-rape victim, and aimed at gathering support and mobilising public opinion in favour of protecting the honour of women and preventing atrocities against them.
In another record breaking attempt of wearing paper caps by the largest number of people, over 1,500 caps were distributed and worn by students standing in the human hand formation.
S. Tamil Maran of VIT University, said : “The official observers will certify the record – breaking event.”
VIT opts for Computer-based Entrance Exam for B.Tech
The VIT University, Vellore, has for the first time introduced computer – based tests for the VIT Engineering Entrance Examinations ( VITEEE ) for admission to B.Tech. programmes for the year 2013. Hitherto, the exam was held in the OMR ( optical mark reading ) mode.
A. James Jebaseelan Samuel, Admission Officer ( UG ), VIT, said that the application for VITEEE – 2013 could be made through two modes – one is the physical mode and the other the online mode. Candidates can either purchase the physical forms from the 274 designated post offices in India through which they were being sold, fill them up and send them to the VIT, or apply online using their net banking facility. Those who apply online have to take a print out of the application form, affix their photograph and put their signature in the form and then send it to the VIT.
The entrance exam next year would be held over a period of 16 days from 15th April, 2013 to 30th April, 2013 in 110 cities in India, and two overseas centres, namely, Dubai and Kuwait. After the deadline for submissions of the applications is over in February, the VIT would be uploading the slots for choosing the venue, time and date of examination in the first week of March.
Each applicant would be given a password for slot booking. Using the password, the candidate can choose the city, date and time of entrance exam in that order. There would be three time slots per day.
The slots would be allotted on the first – come – first – served basis. The computer – based entrance exam would be of two – and – a – hour duration, and each paper would contain 40 multiple choice questions, he said.
According to a VIT release, the VIT Vellore Campus would be offering 14 B.Tech. programmes, including Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering ( CSE ), Electronics and Communication Engineering ( ECE ), Information Technology ( IT ) and Chemical Engineering.
The VIT Chennai Campus would be offering five B.Tech. programmes, namely, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, CSE, ECE and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Candidates who have taken Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Computer Science in their Plus Two can choose any of the 14 programmes, while those who have taken Physics, Chemistry and Biology can opt only for Biotechnology, Bioinformatics or Biomedical Engineering, the Admission Officer said.
