IMU to be headquartered in Berlin
The Weierstrass Institute at Berlin has been selected to host the permanent office of the International Mathematical Union (IMU).
The decision was taken at the 16th General Assembly meeting held in Bangalore on 16th August, 2010 and 17th August, 2010, according to a release.
A number of countries vied to create the permanent office and a committee that was the formed to review their proposals shortlisted three contenders – Fields Insitute (Canada), IMPA (Brazil) and Weierstrass Institute (Berlin).
Representatives from the three institutions made short presentations to the delegates of the General Assembly and the delegates voted in favour of Weierstrass Institute (Berlin) to house the stable office of the IMU.
