XLRI Introduces Changes in XAT 2014

XLRI Jamshedpur has decided to introduce two major changes in the XAT 2013 the exam duration has been extended from 2 hour 30 minute to 3 hours and a new general awareness section has been added.

The exam will have 2 parts. The first part will have 3 sections comprising of multiple choice based questions on analytical reasoning and decision making, verbal and logical ability and data interpretation and quantitative ability. Time duration of 2.20 hours will be allotted for this part. Another 40 minutes will be allotted to essay writing and general awareness. Essay writing part existed earlier also but the general awareness section is completely a new one.

The initiative has been taken to encourage more non engineers on the campus. The premier B schools such as IIMs and XLRI are known to have an exam pattern that encourages only engineers specifically from IITs to take admission. So in a bid to discourage this trend and encourage students from diverse background to take admission in MBA programs, IIMs and XLRI have introduced changes in their entrance exam format.

Sources from the institute revealed that the changes aim at encouraging students from different academic backgrounds such as commerce, social sciences and law on campus.

In a similar attempt, IIM Calcutta has decided to bring changes in its admission process, after students have qualified CAT and are waiting for the interview rounds. The institute has decided to add 2 marks to the total score of a non engineer at this level. Also female candidates will be given a grace mark of 3. This is to promote female students on campus which has always been a male dominated.

As per the institute, students from diverse background will add value to the classroom learning and produce managers with varied skills.
