Yoga Training for Corporation School Teachers

With the first two-week long yoga training camp for Corporation school teachers concluding here on a positive note on Monday, those behind the initiative are expecting that it will help enhance the efficiency level of the teachers and improve all-round performance of the students.

The corporation Education, Parks and Playgrounds Committee has already approved the corporation move to purchase carpets for the use of yoga training for students in schools. The total number of carpets, each measuring 6×2 ft, required is 3600.

The corporation is running 85 schools. Hundred carpets each will be supplied to 16 higher secondary schools, 50 each to 10 high schools, 25 each to middle and primary schools and 50 for the lone special school.

The councilors have accepted the corporation’s decision to fund purchase of carpets, while the Isha Yoga Centre has come forward to “rejuvenate” the corporation schools teachers in the larger interest of the children from backward sections of society.

According to Isha Yoga Centre chief executive J M Balamurugan, yoga practice will relieve the teachers of stress and keep them fresh and energetic always. The stress-free life of the teachers will automatically boost their efficiency level.

The yoga training was imparted to teachers from Siddapudur Corporation School, Ramakrishnapuram Corporation School and RS Puram Ammaniammal School.

Corporation commissioner Anshul Mishra said practicing yoga would keep the classroom atmosphere fresh and help students concentrate on studies and perform well in extra-curricular activities.

Mayor R.Venkatachalam, who took the initiative in coordination with the corporation Education Committee members, pointed out: “There is an accepted perception that yoga training will mould students into better citizens. It will not only renew the energy and improve efficiency level but also balance the emotions of teachers. When the teachers are energetic and efficient, there is no doubt that the performance of the students will improve.”

Deputy Mayor N Karthik opined that the teachers could regain their self-confidence,and think about moulding the children from the poor family background into disciplined and responsible citizens for the tomorrow’s world. R.Kalyanasun-daram, chairman, Corporation Education, Parks and Playgrounds Committee, and member P.Shobana, who took special interest to improve the all round performance of the corporation school children, lauded parents’ support for the programme.
