About Sainik School
Sainik School of Gujarat was started in the year 1961 at Jamnagar. Initially, it was established in the two blocks of Irwin hospital. To provide better facilities, the institution was shifted to its present location at Balachadi. Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Prime Minister of India, presented the school its colour on 07 Mar 1965.
Sprawling across a wide campus along the golden sands of the Gulf of Kutch, lies a patch of land, beautiful in its rare wealth of flora and fauna. Balachadi has a rich historic past.
People visit the beach of Balachadi has a rich historic past. People visit the beach of Balachadi in large number, for offering prayers to their dear departed ones. Legend claims that Balachadi was the ancient Dwaraka, ruled by Lord Krishna.
Balachadi also enjoyed the privilege of being the Summer resort of the local elite for quite a long time. Quite befittingly Balachadi unfolded her cosy wings to house the uprooted polish children during the Nazi outrage of Poland in the Second World War.
The survivors of this outrage visited Balachadi which gave asylum to them at a tender age. They expressed their gratitude and to commemorate this event they installed a plaque in front of school Building.
Sainik School :
Sainik School is located in the Balachadi Estate which is 32 kms away from Jamnagar. The Balachadi Estate was formerly a sea side summer resort that belonged to the rulers of Nawanagar. The estate comprises of 426 acres of land.
This is an English medium residential school for boys, providing public school education with military bias upto and including 10+2 stage as per Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus like other Sainik Schools located at different parts of India. It has an all India curriculum, system of selection and examination.
Sainik School Mission :
The scheme to establish Sainik schools was introduced in 1961 with the primary aim of preparing boys academically, physically and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy. The objectives of the scheme are :
- To remove regional feelings in the officer cadre of the defence services.
- To develop qualities of body, mind and character which will enable young boys to become good and useful citizens.
- To bring public school education within the reach of the common man.
- To prepare those who fail to make it to the National Defence Academy for other walks of life.

Sainik School Curriculum :
Union Public Service Commission Examination for admission to the National Defence Academy / Naval Academy.
All India Secondary School and Senior School Certificate examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi under the 10 + 2 pattern of education ( NCERT ). The medium of instruction is English with Hindi as a compulsory subject upto class X and Gujarati / Sanskrit upto VIII. The progress of students is reported to the parent regularly.
Sainik School Accommodation :
Sainik School has eight houses namely, TAGORE, PRATAP , SHIVAJI, ANGRE, GARUDA, SHASTRI, NEHRU and SARDAR PATEL to accommodate approximately 72 cadets each under the supervision of House Masters, Hostel Supdt / Matrons and House – Tutors.
Sainik School Medical Attention :
Sainik School has a full time Doctor assisted by an experienced Compounder / Nurse, ward boys and a well equipped Hospital of its own. A periodical check up is made of the general health, weight and height of the boys. Records of the boy’s growth are maintained and sent to respective parents.
Sainik School Catering Arrangement :
Both vegetarian and non – vegetarian food is provided in the school Cadets’ Mess. Careful attention is paid to provide the boys a well balanced, varied and appetizing diet and to train them in correct table manners and etiquettes.
Sainik School Extra Features :
Boys are encouraged and guided to choose one or more hobbies. The scheme provides ample scope for the development of student’s creative faculties and skill in fine Arts, Craft and Computer.
Efforts are also made to develop in the boys the skill of Photography, Public speaking, Hiking, Woodwork etc. Education and motivational tours are also conducted during every academic year. The day starts with morning PT and group games under qualified PT instructors from APTC. Gymnastics is also taught.
Sainik School provides facilities for major games like Cricket, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis and Squash. In addition to the above, regular competitions in Athletics, Boxing, Marathon and cross country races are also organized. Every boy has to play some game or the other compulsorily.
Along with the outdoor games, indoor games like Table Tennis, Carrom, Chess etc. are also encouraged and these games are separately available in the recreation room of each house. The school possesses its own Projector. Selected films are screened once a week. Instructional films and film strips are shown to the boys as a part of training in the Audio Visual Room through VCR and Automatic slide Projector.
Sainik School Library :
Sainik School has a qualified librarian and a well equipped library having more than 7,000 books in English, Hindi & Gujarati. The library works on the open access system.

- Ministry of Defence Scholarship available for both serving and ex – serving personnel.
