University of Ballarat Postgraduate Research Scholarships 2013

University of Ballarat offers postgraduate research scholarships to graduates who have completed a four year undergraduate degree at first class Honours in Australia. Awards are restricted to Australian citizens, persons with permanent resident status and applicants eligible to be awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship in December each year by UB. The University of Ballarat has two types of scholarship that may be awarded to International students applying for a place in a Higher Degree by Research. These scholarships are the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship ( IPRS ) and the Special Overseas Student Scholarship ( SOSS ). The SOSS covers course fees only. IPRS covers course fees health insurance and is usually coupled with the award of a stipend.

University of Ballarat PG Scholarship Eligibility 2013 :

University of Ballarat Postgraduate Research Scholarships ( UBPRS ) are open to graduates who have completed a four year undergraduate degree at first class Honours ( or have other qualifications such as a Masters degree or experience in research that lead the Research and Higher Degrees Committee to evaluate the applicant as being equivalent to first class Honours standard ). Awards are restricted to Australian citizens, persons with permanent resident status and applicants eligible to be awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship in December each year by UB. The RHDSC ( Research Higher Degree Sub-Committee ) is the committee responsible for the review & awarding of scholarships at the University of Ballarat.

A UB Postgraduate Research Scholarship may be held for two years ( Master’s candidature ) or three years ( Ph.D candidature ) subject to satisfactory progress, and in the case of Ph.D candidature there is the possibility of extension for a further six months if the thesis will be submitted by the end of this period.

What does it cover? :

The 2012 stipend rate for a University of Ballarat Postgraduate Research Scholarship is $23,728 p.a. paid fortnightly in arrears. The award does not provide travel or other benefits.

University of Ballarat PG Scholarship Notification 2013 :

Nominated referees are requested to return their completed reports to Research Services no later than 23rd November each year.

How to Apply for University of Ballarat PG Research Scholarship 2013 :

The applicants can apply electronically. All persons ( including current UB candidates ) must lodge the Scholarships Expression of Interest form in order to be considered for award of a scholarship.

University of Ballarat Application Conditions 2013

  1. To apply, expressions of interest on the appropriate form must be lodged with Research Services by 31 October each year. A scholarship applicant who is not already a higher degree candidate at the University of Ballarat is also required to lodge an application for candidature before the scholarship application will be considered.
  2. The onus will be on the applicant to provide all documentation required for consideration of candidature and scholarships. As applications are received at Research Services, they will be recorded and passed to the relevant Associate Dean ( Research ) for consideration of eligibility for teaching assistantships, stipend supplementation or, in the case of overseas applicants, eligibility for a Special Overseas Student Scholarship.

An application for a scholarship will be considered by the Research Higher Degrees Sub-Committee only if :

  1. The person is eligible for the award of a scholarship ( see above section on eligibility ),
  2. The scholarship application is complete, and the person is eligible for admission to higher degree candidature at the University of Ballarat,
  3. At least two referee reports are available in relation to the scholarship application*
  4. If the person is completing Honours, Masters, or another award in the same year, written notification of results ( e.g., a fax from Head of School ) must be available no later than 20 November. ( Note :For internal applicants it will be the responsibility of the Associate Dean ( Research ) to ensure this information is available ).*Note : The applicant will nominate referees, and be responsible for calling for reports from referees. Applicants must forward their Referee Reports to nominated referees as soon as possible. These Referee Reports are included in the Application Form for Candidature. The Applicant must complete ( Sections A and B ) in the form. All application forms must reach Research Services on or before the 31 October each year. Nominated referees are requested to return their completed reports to Research Services no later than 23 November each year.It is in the interests of applicants to include with their application a copy of their thesis abstract and / or publications. This material will be returned to the applicant by Research Services upon request.
