Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Description :

The Australian School of Advanced Medicine (ASAM) is Australia’s first specialty medical school to be co-located with a private hospital on a University campus.

Together, ASAM and the Macquarie University Private Hospital provides the latest in diagnostic and treatment technology and sets new standards in clinical care, medical education and research.

ASAM is the first school of its kind to offer sub-specialty, post-fellowship training in a private teaching hospital.

As part of our strategic growth and development, ASAM is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified professional into the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

You will work with Professor Stuart Graham and will be required to assist the Ophthalmology and Visual Science unit in specific research programs including modeling of eye disease, high resolution imaging in vivo, assessment of ocular blood flow and inter-relationship of structural and functional changes at the optic disc.

Primary accountabilities will include developing existing visual science research programs, supervising PhD and Masters students, liaising with other supervisors and ASAM staff, developing animal models of eye disease, publishing results in peer reviewed journals / international presentations and writing / submitting competitive Grant applications.

Essential Selection Criteria for the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship :

  • PhD completion (or near completion)
  • Innovative approach, with the ability to self-direct research projects and supervise students
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as team member and as an individual, as evidenced by the ability to prioritize tasks and make decisions as required

Well developed written and verbal communication skills, particularly publication of data in peer – reviewed journals, keeping laboratory records, compilation of scientific documents and presentation of data at scientific meetings
