Humber College Scholarships 2018

Humber recognizes your academic achievements and has implemented a number of scholarships to assist you with the costs of your post secondary education.

Humber College Scholarships primarily recognize and reward academic excellence, although extracurricular activities, community involvement, and financial need may also be considered.

Humber College Academic Scholarships 2018

Humber College Academic Scholarships are based primarily on academic merit and awarded to new, incoming students from high school. The top applicants for certain programs in each academic school will be automatically considered and successful applicants will be notified by the Financial Aid Office.

These scholarships are valued at $1,000 (redeemed in two instalments, $500 – fall and $500 – winter) and will be awarded to those who apply to Humber prior to the ‘Equal Consideration’ deadline (dependent on Fall, Winter or Spring enrolment) for our postsecondary programs.

Humber College Entrance Scholarships 2018

A limited number of entrance scholarships are available to full-time students entering a Humber post-secondary/postgraduate program for the first time. Entrance scholarships will be awarded by decision of Humber’s Scholarship Committee. A student may not receive more than one entrance scholarship.

Scholarships are based on available funds, values may fluctuate annually. Humber gratefully acknowledges all donations that help contribute to the donor funded entrance scholarships

( i ) Jean Augustine Legacy Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to a student from the Etobicoke-Lakeshore area, entering any Humber postsecondary program for the first time. The successful recipient must demonstrate financial need and how they are working to overcome obstacles in the pursuit of their educational goals as well as participate in his or her local community.

Applications are to be accompanied with the following supporting documentation: Two letters of reference (academic/personal/employment), a letter of approximately 250 words on “What I have done to overcome obstacles in pursuit of my educational goals and how I have participated in my local community”, plus a transcript.

( ii ) Montego Bay Achievers Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to a mature student from an at-risk neighborhood in Toronto that has overcome adversity to pursue their educational goals. Criteria may include any or all of academic achievement, performance / portfolio competition, essay competition and references, as selected by the scholarship committee.

This scholarship is open to mature students from the Jane-Finch, Rexdale or other similar city-designated at-risk neighbourhoods in Toronto, who are entering for the first time any Humber postsecondary program. The successful recipient must demonstrate financial need and how they are working to overcome obstacles in the pursuit of their educational goals.

( iii ) School of Applied Technology

Bolt (Tridel & Partners) Scholarships

A scholarship is presented to 10 students enrolling in in the following diploma programs: Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology, and Sustainable Energy and Building Technology.

The recipient must have successfully completed high school or an equivalent and have either: attended the Tridel Day of Discovery and completed a job shadowing experience on a construction site, completed a high school trade program, or worked in the construction industry for a minimum of two months, as selected by the scholarship committee.

Applications are to be accompanied with the following supporting documentation: Official transcript form final year at secondary school or equivalent, one letter of employment reference supporting the applicant’s employment in the construction industry if applicable and an essay of approximately 250 words on “What I have done to overcome obstacles (e.g. Financial, other) in pursuit of my educational goals”.

Ten scholarships available for $3,000 each

( iv ) Rona Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is presented to two students entering the Home Renovation Technician program who demonstrate good academic standing (a minimum 70 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent) and extra-curricular leadership in their secondary school studies or in the community, as selected by the scholarship committee.

( v ) School of Hospitality, Recreation & Tourism

Cardiac Health Foundation Of Canada Eslm Entrance Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to a full-time student entering the Exercise & Lifestyle Management postgraduate program. The student must have excellent academic standing (a minimum 80 per cent average) and have shown a keen interest in pursuing a career in health promotion. The student is selected based on support from the faculty and as recommended by the scholarship committee.

Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated past involvement in Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada activities Program and other endeavors initiated by the Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada.

Student must have proven financial need. Application must be accompanied by: 250 word essay explaining their interest in a career in a career in health promotion. One letter of reference (academic/extracurricular/employment) Official copy of undergraduate degree transcript The scholarship winner will also be offered an internship at the Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada.

( vi ) Susan Ginther Entrance Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to a full-time student entering the Food and Nutrition program who has achieved honours grades in the last two semesters of high school and who can demonstrate an understanding of customer satisfaction through quality control by completing a 250 word essay on the topic, as selected by the scholarship committee.

Applications are to be accompanied with the following supporting documentation: Two letters of reference (academic/personal/employment), plus transcript.

( vii ) Liberal Arts and Sciences

General Arts and Science – Entrance Scholarship

A Scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic proficiency (minimum of 80 per cent average) and involvement in extracurricular activities that clearly indicate a commitment to their community as selected by the scholarship committee. In addition, two reference (education, employment and /or community) letters are to be included in the submission package, these reference letters  must explain  the recipients commitment to their studies, their academic and/ or career goals and their focus on giving back to others. These aspects have also been addressed by the recipient through the submission of a letter addressed to the selection committee (1-2 pages in length), where they also indicate how this scholarship  will enable them to succeed in their studies.

( viii ) General Arts and Science- Health and Science Entrance Scholarship

A Scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic proficiency (minimum of 80 per cent average) and Involvement In extracurricular activities that clearly indicates a commitment to their community as selected by the scholarship committee . In addition, two reference (education, employment and /or community) letters are to be included in the submission package, these reference letters  must explain  the recipients commitment to their studies, their academic and/ or career goals and their focus on giving back to others. These aspects have also been addressed by the recipient through the submission of a letter addressed to the selection committee (1-2 pages in length), where they also indicate how this scholarship  will enable them to succeed in their studies.

( ix ) General Arts and Science – Technology Program Entrance Scholarship
A Scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic proficiency (minimum of 80 per cent average) and involvement in extracurricular activities that clearly indicate a commitment to their community as selected by the scholarship committee. In addition, two reference (education, employment and /or community) letters are to be included in the submission package, these reference letters must explain the recipients commitment to their studies, their academic and/ or career goals and their focus on giving back to others. These aspects have also been addressed by the recipient through the submission of a letter addressed to the selection committee (1-2 pages in length), where they also indicate how this scholarship will enable them to succeed in their studies.

( x ) Professional Writing and Communications Specialist Entrance Scholarship

A Scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic proficiency (minimum of 80 per cent average) and potential in the field of professional writing and communications as selected by the scholarship committee. This is evidenced through their submission of a portfolio containing two examples of their professional writing and a letter to the selection committee (1-2 pages in length) where they indicate how this scholarship will enable them to succeed in their studies. In addition, two references (education, employment and /or community) will also speak to the recipient’s commitment to their studies and their academic and/ I or career potential as well as their goals as professional writers.

( xi ) Research Analyst Entrance Scholarship

A Scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic proficiency (minimum of 80 per cent average) and involvement in extracurricular activities that clearly indicate a commitment to their community as selected by the scholarship committee. In addition, two reference (education, employment and /or community) letters are to be included in the submission package, these reference letters must explain the recipients commitment to their studies, their academic and/ or career goals and their focus on giving back to others. These aspects have also been addressed by the recipient through the submission of a letter addressed to the selection committee (1-2 pages in length), where they also indicate how this scholarship will enable them to succeed in their studies.

( xii ) Teaching English as a Second Language Entrance Scholarship

A Scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic proficiency (minimum of 80 per cent average) and Involvement in extracurricular activities that clearly indicate a commitment to their community as selected by the scholarship committee. In addition, two reference (education, employment and /or community) letters are to be included in the submission package, these reference letters must explain the recipients commitment to their studies, their academic and/ or career goals and their focus on giving back to others. These aspects have also been addressed by the recipient through the submission of a letter addressed to the selection committee (1-2 pages in length), where they also indicate how this scholarship will enable them to succeed in their studies.

( xiii ) Walker Wood Foundation Entrance Scholarships

A scholarship is presented annually incoming students entering their first year of General Arts and Sciences programming (Technology Certificates, Health and Science Certificates, College and University Transfer Certificates and the General Arts and Science Diploma) in the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, who have achieved an average of 80 per cent average in their final year of high school or the equivalent, as selected by the scholarship committee.

( xiv ) School of Media Studies & Information Technology

Canadian Multicultural Radio Entrance Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to a full-time student enrolling in a Media Studies and Information Technology program for the first time. Criteria may include academic achievement, performance/portfolio competition, essay competition and references. Preference will be given to a student who represents cultural diversity, as selected by the scholarship committee.
Academic achievement (a minimum of 80% average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent), references showing significant contributions to high school journalism (i.e. newspaper, yearbook, or any other media.)

( xv ) Cnw Bachelor Of Public Relations Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to a student enrolling in the Bachelor of Public Relations program directly from high school for the first time. The recipient must demonstrate academic achievement and extra-curricular leadership, as selected by the scholarship committee. CNW Group is fully committed to the future of Public Relations and communications, and is proud to support the Bachelor of Public Relations program at Humber.

The application must be accompanied by: An official transcript from fin al year at secondary school or equivalent. A resume highlighting education, employment, school activities/events and / community involvement. One letter of reference supporting the applicant’s involvement in the community and /or school activities. A minimum 70 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school.

Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to an incoming student in the Law Firm Profile – Office Administration program who exhibits high academic standards, as selected by the scholarship committee.

( xvii ) Sliding.ca Entrance Scholarship

A scholarship is presented to a full-time student entering any program in The Business School for the first time, who has achieved a minimum 70 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent, as selected by the scholarship committee. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who are graduates of Thistletown Collegiate Institute.

( xviii ) Torys LLP Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student entering the Law Firm Profile – Office Administration Program who exhibits high academic standards, as selected by the scholarship committee.

College of Humber Degree Scholarships

Humber awards degree scholarships automatically to graduating high school students based on academic achievement.

College of Humber Project Hero Scholarships

Project Hero, started in 2009 by Retired General Rick Hillier and Honorary Lt. Colonel Kevin Reed, is a unique program providing undergraduate scholarships to children of fallen soldiers. Since September 2009, many of Canada’s finest colleges and universities are offering tuition (and in some cases first year support with room and board) to children of CAF personnel who have lost their lives while serving in an active mission.

Eligibility for College of Humber Scholarships 2018

Entrance Scholarships

  • You must be approved into a Humber postsecondary/ postgraduate program before being considered eligible for a scholarship.
  • Scholarships will be awarded by decision of Humber’s Scholar ship Committee.
  • A student may not receive more than one scholarship.
  • Scholarships are available for September registration only.
  • Where scholarships are grouped by academic school/campus, only one scholarship is awarded per school/campus.
  • Donor-Funded Entrance Scholarships

Degree Scholarships

Newly admitted  students entering their first year of post – secondary studies directly from high school, with a minimum of 75% final admission average.

Project Hero scholarship

  1. A dependent of a Canadian Armed Forces personnel deceased while serving in an active mission
  2. Under the age of twenty-six
  3. Registered as a full-time undergraduate student at the college, in a program of study eligible for funding by the Province of the location of the college
  4. Meet the academic requirements for entry to the academic program for which the recipient applies and maintain satisfactory academic standing in the program

Eligibility to the scholarship program for the children of Canadian Armed Forces personnel deceased while serving in an active mission will be determined by Canadian Armed Forces criteria.

Humber Scholarship Application Form 2018

  • There is no application required for academic scholarships.
  • For Entrance scholarship the application should be submitted within 30th September, 2017
  • Application is not required for Degree scholarship.Scholarship is assessed and awarded on offer of admission.
