2014 Master Scholarships in University of Amsterdam

In 2014, a new prestigious scholarship programme will be launched, targeting exceptionally talented Master’s students from outside Europe. The AES is a full scholarship of € 25,000 ( covering tuition and living expenses ) for one academic year with the possibility of extension for a second year ( for two – year Master’s programmes ).

Eligibility for Amsterdam University Masters Scholarship 2014 :

  1. Hold a non – EU / EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans ( Studiefinanciering; for more information please refer to Website : www.DUO.nl ).
  2. The scholarship office should be notified as soon as possible of any change in nationality, type of residence permit, and / or possibleStudiefinanciering support throughout the academic year.
  3. Be ( provisionally ) admitted to a Master’s Programme of the Faculty of Science. Before you receive an official application form, you need to fill in and submit this preliminary registration form. On the basis of a completed questionnaire, the Coordinator will evaluate the candidate’s academic background.
  4. If the background is relevant, the Programme Coordinator will inform the International Office and an official application form and personal code will be sent to the candidate by means of e – mail. Read the full application procedure at the website of the Master’s programme of your choice.

  • University of Amsterdam Masters Scholarship Open for Outstanding Students from outside the European Economic Area ( EEA ).

University of Amsterdam Masters Scholarship Description :

  • Faculty of Law – Amsterdam Law School – aims to attract talented students to its LLM programs.
  • University of Amsterdam Merit Masters Scholarships are available for those who completed their LLB degree with flying colours.
  • There are 5 full University of Amsterdam Merit Scholarships available for excellent Non – EU students for the Research Master.
  • University of Amsterdam Scholarship is for one year, if students complete the first year before 31st August, 2014 and with high grades the Masters Scholarship will be continued for the second year.
  • Furthermore there are also partial University of Amsterdam Masters Scholarships available.
  • University of Amsterdam Masters Scholarship consists of either € 6000 or € 9000.
  • In the first month of study – September ( 2014 ) – the student will be paid € 1000.
  • The remainder of the University of Amsterdam Masters Scholarship will be paid in 12 monthly instalments.
  • Note : University of Amsterdam Masters Scholarship can not be used by way of ( partial ) tuition waiver the applicant has to pay the full amount of the tuition due ( € 12000 ).

Amsterdam University Masters Scholarship Application Form 2014 :

  • Applicants should write an AES letter of motivation ( maximum 500 words ) in which you explain the reasons for choosing the specific Science Programme ( broader context, relevance for future career ), addressed to the International Team of the Faculty of Science.
  • This letter should be accompanied with the other required application documents. The above mentioned documents must be sent before 15 January 2014 as hard copies to : University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Science, Education Service Centre / International Team, Science Park 904, room B1.28, 1098 XH Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
  • For express mail mention on the envelope the phone number ( only to be used for mail deliveries ) + 31 (0) 20 525 7100. Please note applications of students who do not have a personal application code will not be considered! To receive a personal application code you will have to submit the preliminary application form.

Amsterdam University Masters Selection Criteria :

  • In addition to the admission requirements of the Master’s programme eligible candidates are selected on the basis of their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field as evidenced by :
  • the candidate’s academic records. Students belonging to the top 10% of graduates from their class can apply; the academic quality of the educational institute where the undergraduate ( or graduate ) programme has been obtained. at least two letters of reference from academic staff members.
  • the quality of the letter of motivation (maximum 500 words) in which the candidate explains the reasons for choosing the specific Master’s programme ( broader context, relevance for future career );
  • a description of extracurricular activities such as participation in student commissions, international experience, sports or music at a high level or volunteer work;
  • proof of English proficiency ( IELS / TOEFL ) : TOEFL ( internet – based ) – overall score of 100 ( with a minimum score of 22 in each of the different components ), IELTS ( academic ) – overall score of 7.0 ( with at least 7.0 in each of the four components ); the quality of the application as a whole ( completeness, accuracy, consistency ).
