New Scholarships from Oxford University

Oxford University is offering four new scholarships exclusively for Indian citizens wishing to pursue postgraduate research at Exeter College, one of the oldest of the university’s colleges. The scholarships are tenable for a year from October 2008 and renewable each year. Two Kokil Pathak Scholarships cover the cost of academic fees and provide a maintenance stipend for living expenses. Applications for master’s courses or doctoral research will be accepted for all courses except Clinical Medicine, MBA and EMBA Programs. Applicants must be under 30 years of age and hold a first-class bachelor’s degree.

Candidates should complete a Felix Scholarship application form, mark it as Kokil Pathak Scholarship, and submit by March 1, 2008. Two K. Pathak Clarendon Scholarships award a maintenance stipend for living expenses only as a supplement for students applying to the university for the Clarendon Awards, which covers academic fees.

Applications will be accepted for master’s courses or doctoral research in the Medical Division or the Mathematics, Physical and Life Sciences Division, except Clinical Medicine. Candidates should apply to the university directly for a Clarendon Award. If successful, he or she will automatically be considered for a K. Pathak Clarendon Scholarship. Candidates for both the scholarship Programs should apply to Oxford for admission before applying for the scholarships, mark Exeter as their college of choice and note their scholarship preference on the application form.

Dr. Akoulitchev, one of U.K.’s famous molecular biologists, had this tip for applicants: before you apply make contact with a professor in the relevant department, show a clear understanding of the details of the department’s research and explain why you are interested in joining.
