The Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships were established in the conviction that co – operation between the British Commonwealth and the United States of America based on an informed and understanding contact of the peoples of these countries is essential to international peace.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of future promise of leadership. Strength of character, keen mind, a balanced judgement and devotion to the democratic ideal will be qualities borne in mind in making the final selection.

The Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships are open to men and women who :

  • are citizens of and normally resident in New Zealand; and
  • have spent as least two of the last four years at a university in New Zealand; and
  • are about to graduate from university or graduated no more than two years prior to their application for a Frank Knox Fellowship.

In the academic year 2005 – 2006 the value of a Frank Knox Fellowship will be at least US $ 18, 500 plus full tuition fees and health insurance fees, which should be adequate for the expenses and support of an unmarried Fellow who secures a room in a Harvard dormitory.

A married Fellow will have to make independent arrangements for the financing of their spouse and family.
