Te Papa Masters Scholarship Description :
The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Victoria University of Wellington are offering a Master of Science (MSc) scholarship in the field of plant molecular systematics at Victoria University.
The purpose of this Master of Science scholarship in the field of plant molecular systematics at Victoria University is to promote research between Te Papa and Victoria University in the area of plant molecular systematics, ecology and evolution.
The first year involves three papers and a Research Preparation project. The second year comprises the research thesis, worth 60% of the total degree.
The Te Papa – VUW scholarship provides the successful applicant with a student stipend of $4000 in part 1 (2009) and $6000 in part 2 (2010).
It is also possible to take a MSc by thesis alone if a BSc(Hons) or equivalent has already been completed. The stipend in such cases is $5000 for the one year.
Projects for 2010 – 2011 include investigation of :
- species boundaries amongst Gleichenia ferns (Brittonia, 2007, 59:129-141).
- phylogeography and / or hybridisation in Asplenium ferns (e.g., Molecular Ecology, 2007, 16:4536-4549; Molecular Phylogenetics & Evolution, 2008, 49:240-248).
- species relationships amongst Myosotis forget – me – nots (e.g., Molecular Phylogenetics & Evolution, 2008, 47:319-338).
- or another topic to be determined.
