Canterbury University Scholarships
These scholarships, tenable for study towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury, were established to recognise students of the highest calibre undertaking PhD research at the university.
Eight prestige awards are offered each year to the top applicants for a University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship.
Amount : $21,000 per annum plus thesis tuition fees
Tenure : 3 years
Eligibility for Canterbury University Scholarships
To apply for a Canterbury Scholarship, please use the UC Doctoral Scholarship application form. The very top ranked domestic applicants who apply for the UC Doctoral Scholarship will be awarded one of the limited number of Canterbury Scholarships available. Domestic students who do not receive a Canterbury Scholarship will be automatically considered for the UC Doctoral Scholarship.
Canterbury University Scholarship Details
These scholarships, tenable for study towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury, were established in 2001 to recognise students of the highest calibre undertaking PhD research at the university.
- Canterbury Scholarships are tenable for study towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury. They may be held only by citizens and permanent residents of New Zealand and shall be awarded to the top-ranked candidates applying for a University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship, and who have not been awarded a Brownlie Scholarship or a Roper Scholarship in Science. The scholarships
provide for a living allowance and tuition fees, each to a value determined by the Council (see Note i for their current value).
- For eligible candidates, an application for a University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship constitutes an application for a Canterbury Scholarship; and no separate application is necessary.
- The other regulations for the Canterbury Scholarship are the same as University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarships Regulations 2-11.
Note : The current emolument of the scholarship is $21,000 per EFTS. The scholarship also covers tuition fees at the New Zealand domestic rate, for the minimum course completion requirements (this will be equivalent to 1.00 (full time) or 0.65 (part time) EFTS over a year, or the thesis component only
