The following information outlines the various bursaries and scholarships available to help support students starting at Cardiff Met.

Scholarship in Cardiff Metropolitan University Eligibility 2017

Alumni Discount

  • You must have enrolled and be studying on a taught postgraduate programme, including Master of Research ( MRes ) programmes.
  • You must be self-funded.
  • You must be a previous full-time or part-time student of Cardiff Met ( or as UWIC / Cardiff Institute of Higher Education) . This also includes franchised partners.
  • You must have successfully completed at least an undergraduate qualification.

Study First Award 2017

  • This award is open to students living in designated Welsh Communities First postcodes. You can use the following link to check if your postcode is listed in a Communities First area: Communities First Checker. (Data is provided by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, use CTRL+F to search the file).
  • You must be applying through UCAS as a new Cardiff Met student entering a full time undergraduate programme at year one or foundation level starting in 2017.
  • You may also be entering in 2017 from a Cardiff Met franchise programme e.g. HND or Foundation degree course.
  • Cardiff Metropolitan University must be your Firm Choice University on your UCAS application at June 30th 2017 (students who apply for a course during clearing i.e. after 30th June, may also be considered).
  • You must have a household income less than £50,020. You must be registered with Student Finance Wales and give ‘consent to share’ your household income details as part of your Student Finance application. Student Finance Wales can be contacted here. (NHS students can provide proof of their income assessment directly if they are not using Student Finance Wales).

Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award 2017

  • You must be applying through UCAS as a new student, entering a full time Undergraduate programme at year one or foundation level starting 2017.
  • You must achieve results that place you within the top 10 eligible students in your academic school. This will be determined by an analysis of applicants’ tariff data by the scholarship team. Tariff points are taken from grades at A-Level and equivalent qualifications. If you would like further information, contact scholarship@cardiffmet.ac.uk .​ In the event of a tariff point tie, other level 3 qualifications may be taken into account.
  • You must have accepted Cardiff Met as your Firm Choice by 30th June 2017.
  • We must have received and confirmed your exam results by 31 August 2017.
  • You must be a Home or EU student to apply for this award.
  • Applicants achieving the same tariff point total may be required to submit a short piece, maximum 200 words, detailing why you think you deserve the scholarship.  If this is required, you will be contacted early September. You may also be invited to participate in an interview in front of a judging panel.

Undergraduate Sport Scholarship Award 2017

  • You must be applying through UCAS as a new student, entering a full time Undergraduate programme at year one or foundation level starting in 2017.
  • You must have accepted Cardiff Met as your Firm Choice by 30th June 2017. (students who apply for a course during clearing i.e. after 30th June, may also be considered).
  • You must meet the defined standards in sport as stated by the level guidance below.
  • You may be invited to participate in an interview in front of a judging panel.
  • You must not be receiving World Class Funding from UK Sport.
  • You must be a Home or EU student.

Student Union Sports Scholarship

The scholarship is open to all students regardless of what course they are studying at Cardiff Met as long as they are competi​ng or have the potential to compete at international level.

Alumni Discount

From 2017 entry, Cardiff Met has introduced a scheme that offers a 20% reduction in tuition fees for Cardiff Met graduates enrolling on to taught postgraduate programmes.

If you are a graduate of the University, or are currently studying at either postgraduate or undergraduate level, you could benefit from the Alumni Discount for your future postgraduate study at Cardiff Met.

Study First Award 2017

The Study First award is designed to help with the day to day costs of studying at university. The package provides financial help toward accommodation, travel, food, books and photocopying, and is worth over £1,000 per year for the duration of your course.

Award Package 

There are two versions of the award available, (you can only apply for one):

 1. Study First Package (for those living at home), includes:

  • A university and city bus pass for your whole year of study (worth over £200)
  • A free catering package for each day of study (£20 per week during term)
  • A free print and copying budget (£50 per term)
  • A voucher to help with book purchases (£150)

2. Living First Package, includes:

  • A contribution to accommodation costs for those living in halls/ Cardiff Met approved rented accommodation (£500 towards your rent in term two, in January)
  • A free catering package for each day of study (£20 per week during term)
  • A free print and copying budget (£50 for the year)

Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award 2017

The Cardiff Met Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award is designed for the highest achieving students within each Academic school. The award applies to new students who will be starting at Cardiff Met in 2017. It is worth up to £2,000 during your first year at Cardiff Met, paid as a contribution towards accommodation or travel costs and an allowance worth up to £500.

Undergraduate Sport Scholarship Award 2017

The Undergraduate Sport Scholarship Award is designed for students that excel in sport. You do not need to be applying for a degree within the Cardiff School of Sport; you can qualify for this award if you are studying in any of our five academic schools. The award is split into different levels; Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze, based upon your sporting prowess. Priority will be given to students who compete in a sport that is part of the British University College Sport (BUCS) competition, although exceptional applicants who compete in a non-BUCS sport will be considered. The award is paid through an accommodation contribution, catering or general campus allowance and in some cases a cash award.

Student Union Sports Scholarship

The aim of the Cardiff Met Student Union Sports Scholarship is to assist students of exceptional sporting ability to develop their academic and sporting talents to their full potential, and therefore to encourage the development of university sport. This can be up to £1,000. Student Union Sport Scholarships are supported by Spire Healthcare.

Application is not needed. The discount will be automatically applied to fees, for those that meet the eligibility criteria, provided you are enrolled and have not withdrawn within the first two weeks of the course. 20% reduction of tuition fees

Study First Award 2017

Undergraduate students who will be starting at Cardiff Met in September 2017 and who live in a designated Welsh Communities First postcode can apply. The award is means-tested. The deadline to apply for the award is 10th September 2017.You will receive automatic notification by email that we have received your application. If you do not receive this notification, contact us on scholarship@cardiffmet.ac.uk as soon as possible so we can confirm receipt. You will only be notified of the final outcome from September 2017 onwards, once we have assessed your form against the eligibility criteria.

Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award 2017

Entry to this award is automatic provided you have applied through UCAS and chosen Cardiff Met as your firm choice by 30th June 2017. 

Undergraduate Sport Scholarship Award 2017

n order to be considered for the Undergraduate Sports Scholarship Award please complete the online application form which can be accessed through the link at the bottom of the page. It is advised you read the ‘guidelines for applicants’ carefully before completing the form. The deadline to apply is the 31st August, 2017.

You will receive automatic notification by email that we have received your application. If you do not receive this notification, contact us as soon as possible on scholarship@cardiffmet.ac.uk so we can confirm receipt. You will be notified of the final outcome by e-mail in September 2017. Your application will be assessed by a scrutiny panel, based on the eligibility criteria.

Applications can not be considered until you have accepted an offer of a place on a course and have made Cardiff Metropolitan University your first choice.Closing date for applications is the 6th of October, 2017.
