Cardiff University President’s Research Scholarship in Law, Policy and Politics in Wales
Study Subject : Law, Policy and Politics
Employer : University of Cardiff
Level : Phd
This is a Cardiff University President’s Research Scholarship, part of a new £4M investment to coincide with the inauguration of Professor Sir Martin Evans (Nobel Prize for Medicine 2007) as Cardiff’s new President.
All of the University Schools and Research Centres offering opportunities under the program have demonstrated the real potential of the Scholarships to contribute to research excellence through significant, challenging and original PhD research projects and excellent PhD supervision and support.
Other attractive features of the Scholarships include the presence of multiple President’s Scholars in each of the research areas and the guaranteed exposure of President’s Scholars to innovative technologies, theories, methodological approaches, and debates.
The President’s Program in the Law, Policy and Politics of Wales develops a collaboration between the Wales Governance Centre (WGC) and the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research Methods and Data (WISERD), and builds on their strength in Wales-focused research.
The scholarships will deliver a suite of interdisciplinary, policy informed research, drawing on supervisory expertise in three schools of Cardiff University: European Studies, Law and Social Sciences.
The program sets the law, policy and politics in Wales, a broad comparative, multi-level governance, European Union (EU) and international context, and invites applicants to submit PhD proposals that fall within these broad bounds.
On graduation, there will be a heavy demand for the President’s Research Scholars within the Academy.
Alongside the practitioner / policy mentors which will be organised for the Scholars, their exposure to the policy world will alert them to other professional career opportunities and ways in which they can contribute to social, political and economic life beyond the University sector.
The award will cover tuition fees at the Home/EU fee rate and will provide a stipend at the UK Research Council rate (£13,590 for 2010/11).
Please note that overseas candidates will be required to fund the balance of fees at the overseas fee rate themselves.
Academic Criteria: Applicants must have a First Class Honours degree or a 2.1 plus a postgraduate Masters degree (or their equivalents).
Residency : Open to all UK/EU and International (see funding notes above)
