Postdoctoral Fellowship : Systems Biology of Bone
Study Subject : Bone biology, Endocrine physiology
Employer : Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute
Level : Postdoctoral
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to carry out fundamental research in Dr. Vijay Yadav’s team on the factors that regulate bone mass, including the study of new mouse models of bone abnormalities; investigating the changes in endocrine systems and identifying the mechanisms involved.
The role will involve evaluating large quantitites of genetic data to enhance the understanding of complex disease and applying these novel insights to plan the next generation of studies of disease genetics.
The Sanger Institute is a world leader in large-scale genome sequencing, informatics and the production of animal models to study gene function; providing the successful candidate with excellent resources and a stimulating research environment.
There is a commitment to personal and professional development in the group, and the successful applicant will be encouraged to develop their own ideas, drive their research project and establish a strong academic profile.
The successful candidate will have specific expertise in bone biology and molecular genetic techniques, with the relevant knowledge of computational tools and a strong background in mouse or human molecular genetics with a Ph.D. in molecular biology or bone biology.
In depth knowledge of specific aspects of mouse genetics and endocrine systems is essential as is an established track record of first author publications in peer reviewed journals in bone biology or endocrinology.
Previous experience in endocrine physiology and experience in bone biology would be desirable. The candidate should display that they have the ability to work in a team and to organise their own work and the work of others.
A more detailed description of required skills and experience is outlined in the role profile.
