UIC Institute for the Humanities Dissertation Fellowships
The Faculty Fellowship Program of the Institute for the Humanities seeks to support research in the humanities, to strengthen teaching in the humanities, and to foster interdisciplinary dialogue at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2018 – 2019, the Institute will offer six year-long fellowships. The fellowshipsrelease faculty from all formal teaching and administrative obligations during the fellowship year.
Institute fellows are required to be in residence during the fellowship year and to spend full time on their writing and research. Fellows are also expected to present a public lecture and lead an informal workshop on the fellowship project, participate in all fellows’ lectures and workshops, and to attend other Institute events whenever possible.
UIC Institute for the Humanities Dissertation Fellowship Eligibility
All full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty in humanities and related disciplines at the rank of assistant professor and above are eligible to apply for this award. Those faculty who have been Institute fellows are eligible to apply for a second fellowship five years after their former fellowship elapsed ( 2012 – 2013 or earlier ). Those who have had two fellowships are eligible to reapply ten years after their last fellowship elapsed ( 2007 – 2008 or earlier ). Former Fellows must apply for new projects.
In response to questions about the appropriateness of particular projects for fellowships, the Institute has adopted the broad definition used by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
