The Advanced Technologies Centre, opened at the Hawthorn campus in 2011, was the first education building in Australia to be awarded a five-star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
We’re home to the National Centre for Sustainability and we were the first Australian university to sign a sustainability covenant with the Environment Protection Authority.

Industry Engaged Learning :
Industry Engaged Learning programs allow you to engage directly with industry, and develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to prepare you for your career.
Internship programs help you gain professional and practical skills in your chosen field of study. They form part of a number of degrees, including arts, engineering, media and communications, psychology and social sciences. Interns are placed with an organisation to work on a research project or undertake work experience under industry guidance and academic supervision for two or three days a week throughout the semester. Internships are usually unpaid and are equivalent to one unit of study, which means that you earn credit towards your degree.
Overseas Internships :
Working abroad is an opportunity for degree students to put academic knowledge into practice and gain an international perspective. You can work abroad for between two and 12 months through one of Swinburne’s international work experience or Industry-Based Learning programs.
Student Leadership and Volunteer Program :
The Student Leadership and Volunteer Program provides you with opportunities to contribute to the Swinburne community through volunteering and leadership roles. Volunteers develop practical experience and have opportunities to undertake training and obtain certifications in a range of fields.
Short-term International Study Programs :
Joining a short-term international study program allows you to develop skills to benefit you personally and professionally. They range from two to six weeks’ duration and can take you to exciting destinations all over the world.
Academic Personal Best :
The Academic Personal Best Program assists you to develop the skills you need to reach your individual goals. The program is designed to help you discover your potential and acquire the tools needed to achieve your true personal best. Participants take part in weekly group sessions, led by a mentor, to identify and discuss strategies to help achieve academic success.
Community Engaged Learning :
Through Community Engaged Learning you can gain the relevant skills to become an active and knowledgeable citizen in your local, national and international community. Swinburne supports current social, cultural, educational and environmental issues affecting the community in which you can become involved.

Experienced careers counsellors offer a range of free career services for current students and graduates ( two years after graduation for university graduates and six months for TAFE graduates ).
SwinEmploy is an online job database that advertises professional, part-time and casual jobs. Once registered, students receive regular emails about jobs relevant to their study areas.
