Lille1 University is a State University, founded in 1562 by the Spanish. It became French in 1667. Louis Pasteur was the first Dean of the Science Faculty in 1854. Lille University was, at that time, situated in the town centre. In 1971, the Science Faculty and the different faculties in Lille moved to the new town of Villeneuve d’Ascq. Lille 1 is one of the leading science universities in France. Here you will be able to learn how to sharpen your critical thinking, a fundamental element in developing knowledge. You will also apprehend how to look at things from a different perspective, both academically and socially. Furthermore, you will become part of a particularly cosmopolitan French population situated less than 300 kilometres from five European countries.

University of Science & Technology is one of the leading multi discipline Scientific Centers in France which offers a wide range of courses in the field of Economy and Management, Human and Social Sciences, Science & Technology. The real scientific city located less than 2 hours from 4 European capital cities, it also boasts a magnificent 110 hectare park close to Lille. The cosmopolitan feel of Lille and the surrounding area, the layout of the university campus and the many cultural, associative and sports activities available make a major contribution to the life of the students and staff.

On the campus, there are different places where you can find a computer to work and also many wireless connections. When you enrol, a personal e-mail address is automatically issued. You will receive a weekly newsletter and then become a real actor of the Lille 1 community.

The Moodle pedagogical platform will help you contact teachers and other students, get information about courses, get access to all e – resources.

Services

Modern Languages Department

The Modern Languages Departement enables you to study French, English,German or Spanish. Languages are taught
in two dedicated buildings : B5 and SUP / SUAIO. Two self access language resources centres are available to students who want to improve their language skills.

Career Service

In the SUP / SUAIO building, you can also find “Pass’Pro”, a special office reserved for professional orientation and job / internship seeking. You can have information about internships offers. Some seminars are organised throughout the year to help students with CV and application letters. You can also find a large area reserved for documentation, information on careers and jobs.

Service of Disabled

If you are disabled or seriously sick,the student’s life office can help you in many ways ( help with administrative procedures, with the organisation of courses, of exams )

Societies and Clubs

There are over 60 clubs and societies on the university campus. Thanks to these associations, you can have contact with other French students.

Summer Schools

Each summer, international students can take part in summer schools on the campus.The aim of these intensive programs is to learn or improve French language knowledge and learn more about French culture. Visits in the region are organised. These courses are open to every international student.
