Study Abroad - Switzerland
EDUCATION IN SWITZERLAND
Two sets of educational systems exist in Switzerland. The first is the government system comprising seven Government organised universities. In addition, there are Federal Institutes of Technology for technical subjects and research studies. This system includes the state educational institutions of the 26 Cantons (states), and each Canton has its own system and language. The second system comprises private institutions and boarding schools. Among them are private schools, which conduct hotel management and business management courses. The academic session in Switzerland begins in mid-October. Swiss degrees are different from the traditional ones. Usual Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D degrees are not given in this system, with the exception of St.Gallen University and some private institutions. As a matter of facts the traditional swiss academic degrees are the license, the diploma and the doctorate. Few scholarships are available for foreign students under the federal commission of scholarships for foreign students aimed at PG and young researchers studying in government universities.
