Textile Engineering

The textile industry is in a period of rapid and revolutionary modernization and automation, increasing the need for engineering graduates with skills in engineering, design, chemistry, management, computers, apparel, marketing/sales, and quality control. Textile Engineers meet this challenge. Textile Engineering combines the principles of engineering with specific knowledge of textile equipment and processes. The curriculum draws from other engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and industrial and chemical engineering. The emphasis is on science and engineering. Students planning to pursue a degree in textile engineering will find it advantageous to have a strong background in mathematics.

Textile Chemistry Curriculum is the most specialized program, focusing on the chemistry and physics of fiber-forming polymers. The theory and practice of textile dyeing and finishing is also a major area of study. Dyeing, finishing and printing of textiles require specific knowledge in chemistry and chemical processes. This major is for students who like applied science, chemistry and maths.

Textile Management and Technology is our broadest and most flexible degree program. Courses in accounting, economics, management, marketing and computers are coordinated with textile courses related to managing people and processes in the fiber, textile, carpet and apparel industries. Optional courses allow a student to concentrate on specific aspects of the business such as marketing or apparel manufacturing. Although the technical content of the program is strong, the emphasis is on management and communication skills. Specialization: Emphasis is given on textile chemical technology, fiber science technology, technical textile and computer application in textile.

Educational Attainment: B.Tech, Post graduation, Ph.D

A textile technology is primarily concerned with textile fibers & their transformation into yarns & fabrics. There options (a) textile technology, (b) Textile engineering, (C) Textile chemical are available.

Employment opportunities

In textile engineering Career paths include process engineering, research and development, production control, technical sales, quality control and corporate management through the production supervisory route. Graduates with textile chemistry find careers in dyeing and finishing, technical services, research and development, quality control, product development, polymer science and environmental control. Most graduates of the with textile management program initially enter management trainee programs which can ultimately lead to plant or corporate management. Other career options include technical sales, industrial engineering, product development, marketing, customer relations, human resources, and cost and inventory control.
