West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences :

The WB National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata was established under the Act of 1999 & adopted by the West Bengal Legislature in 1999. The University was notified under Clause ( f ) of Section 2 of the UGC Act, 1956 in August 2004 and has been granted permanent affiliation by the Bar Council of India in July 2005. The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of NUJS and is also the Chairman of the General Council, the supreme policy – making body of the University. Professor Mahendra Pal Singh is the Vice Chancellor of the University. Their objective is to promote legal knowledge and to make law and the legal process efficient instruments of social development.

The NUJS campus is spread over an area of five acres of land comprising of an academic block, the halls of residence and a few flats for the faculties. The campus also has a guest house and a gymnasium for the students and the staff and faculties of NUJS. The latest addition to the NUJS infrastructure is its own auditorium. NUJS has built its own auditorium, on campus, with all modern facilities. The facilities would get a major boost once the entire networking of the campus is completed, a process which is already underway with the help of Ernet.

West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences Placement Cell :

NUJS is proud of its excellent placement record. Till 2008, NUJS had a 100 percent placement record. The placement record of the batch that passed out in 2009 has also been remarkable in spite of the economic downturn. Recruitment, ever since the very first batch graduated, has seen participation from some of the finest international and national firms as well as the biggest corporate houses. NUJS graduates have done an exceptional job and this has resulted in the university earning an enviable reputation in the job market.

The Campus Recruitment Committee ( CRC ), which is a student run body, overlooks and co – ordinates the recruitment of the graduating batch of students of the NUJS and is solely authorized and responsible for communicating and coordinating between students sitting for Recruitment and Prospective Recruiters / Recruiters. Organizations throughout the years, have expressed high levels of satisfaction with the recruitment programme organized by the CRC and students of NUJS continue to make a mark in the legal and commercial arenas.

LLM stands for Masters of Law. It is a 2 year course. The minimum eligibility is Bachelor degree preferably in Law. The course covers subjects like Law and Social Transformation in India, Indian Constitutional Law – The New Challenges, Judicial Process, Research Methodology, Dissertation etc.
