Background:
Founded on february1, 1881, St Stephen’s is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affiliated to the Calcutta University, and later to the Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became on of its three original constituent colleges.
The college has an all-India and all-denomination membership. There are a few teachers and students from abroad. There is provision for nearly 300 men and 54 women to reside in the college. It has a fine library containing more than 90, 000 books.
