Fine Arts Career Eligibility

Required Qualifications for Pursuing Fine Arts Courses in India For joining a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts ( B.F.A. ) one is required to complete 10+2 or higher secondary examination along with the clearance of an aptitude test which is conducted by all art institutions.

Professional education in fine arts can be done through this four – year degree program segmented into two courses, namely Foundation course ( One Year ) and Specialization course ( Three years ). Further professional study can be pursued through a Masters in Fine Arts ( M.F.A ) programmed usually spanning over two years. A candidate seeking admission to the course must have passed the Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in the relevant specialization.

1. Applied Art Course

Also known as Commercial Art, includes training students in the planning and execution of advertising and publicity. It is the art media for commercial purposes to create attractive illustration designs for Advertisements, Press / Magazine Advertisements, Posters, design of Symbols and Logos, Typography, Packaging Designs, Display Designs, Book Jackets etc. It also includes visual aids for industrial and educational application.

These days those who graduate from this stream may also become Visualizer / Graphic Designer, Freelance artist in Advertising Agencies, Publishing house, Multimedia, Corporate houses, as Animator, and Illustrator, Web Designing, Set Designer, Interior Decorator, Teachers or administrators of art programs. Careers relating to Interior Design, Decorative Art, Advertising, Graphic Design, Film, Photography, Industrial Design, Fashion and Architecture come further as career options after completion of graduation study.

As a Graphic Designer one is mostly required to design and draw Billboards, Window Slides, Technical catalogues and Cinema Slides. One can also get employed in the Film or Theatre Productions.

2. Painting Course

It is a form of visual expression and is one of the major forms within the visual arts. As a course work in creative painting, students develop a concept for a body of work. Abstraction, mixing of mediums, stylization, using reality as a basis for painting, employing cubic forms, distortion and simplification is encouraged. Here an artist paints portraits, landscapes, composition, still life, abstract painting, murals etc on different mediums. 3. Sculpture Course

It is an in – depth portfolio building course that explores opportunities for expression through vigorous sculptural work in varied media. It is a three – dimensional artwork created by shaping clay, plaster of paris hard or plastic material commonly stone( either rock or marble ), metal( bronze ), and wood. Some modern sculptures are created directly by carving; others are assembled, built up and fired, welded, moulded, or cast. 4. Visual Communication Course

The aim of this course is to create an understanding of the industry’s needs by enhancing knowledge and technical skills through exposure to professional examples, appropriate visual media, including freehand drawing and computer technology; ability to rapidly visualize sophisticated creative ideas and images for the purpose of conceptual communication.

This program includes creative image making with focus on concepts, scripting, visualizing, story boards and movement and meaning of 2 – D and 3 – D Animation techniques. Career options in visual communication lies mainly in advertising agencies, multimedia industry, Film making and as Animators and Freelance artists.

5. Print Making Course

The aim of this program is to develop the skill of the students to communicate through various mediums and technology and also to shape the personality of the student, wherein creative freedom co – exists with known practical requirements. In this, emphasis is laid on composition and individual techniques working in different mediums like Relief Process, Intaglio, Lithography, Screen printing and Mix Media. In print making students can look up to career options by displaying their prints in various art exhibitions and in collections of art galleries working as freelance artists. Teaching has also been an influential career option in print making.

6. Art History Course

This course offers a chronological survey of Indian and Western art from the dawn of civilization to the present time, including the most modern trends and ideas in the ever changing world of art. It facilitates the understanding of works of art within their historical context by examining issues such as politics, religion, patronage, gender, function and ethnicity , through both contextual and visual analysis. As career it opens avenues to enable the skills as Art Curators, In – house Art Critics for Art Galleries, in Research and Documentations, to examine and analyze presentations of art in Museums, Art Galleries, and Auctions and on the Internet, to master the vocabulary of art and how visual language communicates by opting for teaching Art History.
