Dr. P. Subbarayan was a freedom fighter and was the member of the Constituent Assembly of India.

Dr. P. Subbarayan was born on 11th September 1989 in the Salem District of Tamil Nadu. He belonged to a Zamindar famly. His father, Paramsiva Gounder died when he was only 8 years old. He educated in Hindu High School and Presidency College of Madras.

P. Subbarayan obtained doctorate in law from Dublin.He returned India and joined into politics.  In 1921 he was appointed as the Secretary to the Minister for Development in Tamil Nadu. In 1922 he was selected as the member of Legislative Council.

From 1927 to 1936 he served as the chief of Madras Presidencey. As the member of Indian National Congress he participated in the Quit India Movement and was imprisoned by the British Govderment. P. Subbarayan was appointed as the Law and Education minister in the C.Rajagopalachari cabinet in 1937.

Dr.P. Subbarayan was selected as the member of the Constituent Assembly of India. In 1947 he became the Home minister of Madras. In 1957 he was elected as the member of Lok Sabha from Tiruchengode constituency.

Dr.P. Subbarayan was also the into Transport and Communications in Nehru`s Cabinet from 1959 to 1962. His last appointment was Governor of Maharashtra.
