Indian historians date back to the earliest of 16th century with the popularity of Shaikh Abu al-Fazl.
Indian Historians have contributed hugely in the domain of Indian history and its documentation. The Indian historians kept on analysing and researching on the historical facts of the nation since 16th century. Shaikh Abu al-Fazl ibn Mubarak, also known as Abu`l-Fazl is one of the most popular Indian historian.
Abu`l-Fazl was the Vazir of the great Mughal emperor Akbar, and author of the Akbarnama, the official history of Akbar`s rule in India in three volumes, the third volume is known as the Ain-i-Akbari and a Persian translation of the Bible.
He is the author of the Tabaqat-i-Akbari, covering the time from the Islamic invasion of India up to 1594 and the reign of Akbar the Great. Mulla Abd-ul-Qadir Badauni is another popular personality amongst Indian Historians. He was an Indo-Persian historian and translator living during the Mughal period in India. He was son of Muluk Shah.
C. Sivarama Murti or Calambur Sivaramamurti was one of the most popular Indian historians from the art genre. He is also a Sanskrit scholar. His entire life has been dedicated to the study and explanation of various aspects of Indian art. He authored several monographs; and has surveyed the panorama of Indian art as archaeologist, numismatist, epigraphist, historian and scholar.
A sculptor and an artist in his own right, he has often illustrated his book with his own sketches. Ratan Parimoo, born 1936 in Srinagar, Kashmir is one of the major art Indian historians and painters of modern India. He worked as a professor at the M.S. University in Vadodara for a long time. His paintings are included in the collection of India`s National Gallery of Modern Art.
The Indian historians have discovered many facets of research, not only in history, but also art and other subjects of humanities. They established many theories through their extensive thesis works.
They often took part in various social programs and welfare organisations. S. P. Gupta and Anand Krishna are the other two famous Indian historians.
